Hoax threats targeting Indian airline flights show no signs of slowing, with nearly 50 flights affected by such alerts on Sunday alone. Major carriers like IndiGo, Vistara, and Akasa were among those impacted, with IndiGo confirming "security-related alerts" for 18 flights. Two of these flights, Pune-Jodhpur (6E 133) and Kozhikode-Dammam (6E 87), were diverted to Ahmedabad and Mumbai as a precaution.

Over the past two weeks, more than 350 flights have been hit by these false threats, leading to substantial financial setbacks for airlines and frustrating delays for travelers. To combat this wave of misinformation, the government has directed social media platforms like X and Meta to clamp down on the spread of such hoaxes, warning of strict penalties for non-compliance.

On Sunday, Union Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu addressed the situation, stating that authorities are working with international organizations, law enforcement, and the Intelligence Bureau to tackle these threats. “We are planning amendments to two civil aviation laws, aiming to impose severe penalties on individuals responsible for such disruptions,” he said, adding that further preventative measures, including a potential no-fly ban for offenders, will be introduced soon.

Despite these assurances, the aviation industry remains on high alert, as both airlines and passengers continue to endure the effects of these relentless threats. An airline spokesperson affirmed, “We are adhering to our stringent safety protocols and are coordinating closely with authorities to ensure passenger safety.
