India's largest airline, IndiGo, is taking significant steps toward inclusivity by adding a gender-neutral option for passengers during booking. Soon, IndiGo will offer the honorific 'Mx' to accommodate transgender individuals who prefer not to specify their gender. This follows the lead of Air India Express and Vistara, which already provide the 'Mx' option for ticket bookings.
The airline is also working to double the number of employees with disabilities, reinforcing its commitment to inclusivity.
Additionally, IndiGo has been consistently rolling out innovative products and services to improve the passenger experience and strengthen its market position. Over the past year, the airline has made notable progress in several areas, including:
1. Introduction of Business Class
IndiGo is preparing to debut its first business-class service, responding to India's increasing demand for premium travel options. The new service, 'IndiGo Stretch,' is designed to offer a more luxurious and comfortable experience for business travellers and high-spending leisure passengers.
Starting mid-November, 'IndiGo Stretch' will be available on 12 routes, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Bookings for business class travel starting November 14 began on August 6, with fares beginning at Rs 18,018. Oberoi Hotels will provide premium meals for this service.
2. Women-Only Seats
Thanks to a new booking feature, Women can now avoid sitting next to men on IndiGo flights. During online check-in, women will see pink icons indicating where other female passengers are seated, allowing them to choose seats accordingly. This feature is exclusively visible to female travellers.
3. 7 New International Destinations
IndiGo is expanding its international reach with plans to add seven new destinations within this financial year. IndiGo operates more than 2,000 flights daily, serving approximately 120 destinations, including 33 international cities.
The airline has also launched flights to Jaffna, Sri Lanka, marking its second destination after Colombo. Jaffna will become IndiGo's 34th international and 122nd overall destination. Bookings for this new route commenced on August 1, 2024.
4. Loyalty Program
IndiGo has introduced its highly anticipated loyalty program, IndiGo BluChip, which offers members a range of exclusive benefits and rewards. This frequent flyer program enables travellers to earn points and redeem them for seat purchases.
