Qatar Airways has reclaimed the top spot, earning the coveted title of the world’s best airline in 2024, replacing Singapore Airlines, and pushing it to the second position, while Emirates secured third rank

There are several factors that contribute to good airline service, both on-board and on the ground, including not just how swiftly it can get you from the departure point to the destination, on time within one’s budget, but also how it handles customers from the moment they purchase their tickets.

For a majority of passengers, a good safety record, and good price tick the boxes. However, many other criterions monitor an airline's heartbeat and are frequently the initial indicators of more significant issues.

Profitability and fleet age are critical considerations. Some airlines are profitable but do not invest nearly enough in fleets or services. Some have fleets that are 17 years or older on average.

Premium economy on a long-distance carrier is considered as the significant criteria. It is unquestionably the finest value proposition for both the passenger and the airline. The inspectors also insist that an airline have flat beds in business class with a comfortable mattress has a chance to win Airline of the Year.

Notably, India's very own Vistara, globally ranked 16th, has emerged as the best airline across South Asia for 2024.

Meanwhile, The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasts that the industry will achieve a net profit of $30.5 billion, with total revenues expected to approach $one trillion in 2024.

Interestingly, Cathay Pacific Airways has made a significant jump this year, moving from rank eight in 2023 to fifth in the latest role of honours, while Swiss International Air Lines is experiencing a leap by two positions, from 12 in 2023 to 10, rounding up the top 10 list.

India has become the third-largest domestic airline market globally, with its capacity doubling from 7.9 million in 2014 to 15.5 million in April 2024, according to OAG data.
