Skoda Auto will drive in its first electric vehicle in India in September 2025. The information comes from Petr Janeba Brand Director of Skoda India, in recent interview with a digital media publication. The name and the details of the initial Skoda EV are still under the covers. The Skoda Enyaq was set to be the first electric vehicle in India but its release was delayed. This electric SUV was presented in the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show alongside the Skoda Elroq EV.
Janeba added it is contemplating three different options, namely The Elroq, Enyaq and the Enyaq Coupe EVs. All built using the MEB platform. The final choice on which model will launch as the company's first EV to be sold in India will be decided following the announcement of the government's EV policy in March 2025. The Govt. of India is expected to boost the benefits of automakers that manufacture EVs at their current manufacturing facilities.
Let's examine the key features of the Skoda electric vehicles under review:
Its Elroq electric SUV is powered by Skoda's "Modern solid" style of design, and is a part of Volkswagen Group's MEB design. It is 4.49 meters long and comes with three battery options: 52kWh, 59kWh and the 77kWh. The 52kWh battery featuring a 170bhp rear-mounted motor offers a claimed range of 350km (WLTP) as well as the 59kWh and 77kWh versions provide electric range of 385km and 560km respectively. The manufacturer claims they have found that Elroq (in its more powerful version) can go from 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, and can reach the top speed of 180mph.
The Skoda Enyaq SUV and Coupe SUV received updates in mid-life globally. The Enyaq SUV has a battery pack of 77kWh, which can provide an endurance of up to 562 km on one charge. The updated Enyaq coupe-SUV can reach of 597km or more and is significantly more than the previous. The lower versions of both EVs make use of a battery that is smaller, 59kWh. It has the claimed 431km and 439km respectively.
