Ola Electric launches affordable Gig and S1 Z scooters with innovative removable battery

Ola Electric has unveiled two new series of electric scooters, the Gig and S1 Z, setting a new benchmark for affordability and innovation. The highlight of these launches is the company's first-ever removable battery pack, a feature that CEO and Co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal hinted at recently. Adding to the excitement is the remarkable pricing of these scooters.

The Gig series starts at just Rs 39,999, while the S1 Z series begins at Rs 59,999 (both ex-showroom), making them the most budget-friendly options in their respective segments. The Gig series includes two variants: Gig and Gig+, whereas the S1 Z series offers S1 Z and S1 Z+ trims.

Bookings for all four models are currently open on Ola Electric’s website for a token amount of Rs 499. Deliveries for the Gig series will commence in April 2025, followed by the S1 Z series in May 2025.

Ola Gig & Gig+: Range, Specs, Features

The Ola Gig is tailored for gig workers in the B2B space, ideal for shorter trips. It offers an IDC-certified range of 112 km on a single charge with a top speed of 25 kmph. It features a removable 1.5 kWh battery and a 12-inch wheel, powering a rear-wheel hub motor. Priced at Rs 39,999 (ex-showroom), the Gig is available for B2B purchases and rentals.

The Gig+ variant, designed for longer distances and heavier payloads, costs Rs 49,999 (ex-showroom). It can be equipped with either single or dual battery packs, offering ranges of 81 km and 157 km, respectively, on a single charge. The Gig+ is powered by a 1.5 kW hub motor and reaches a top speed of 45 kmph.

Ola S1 Z & S1 Z+: Range, Specs, Features

The S1 Z series marks Ola Electric’s entry-level range of electric scooters. The base S1 Z model comes with dual removable 1.5 kWh batteries, providing an IDC-certified range of 75 km on a single battery pack and 146 km on dual battery packs. Powered by a 2.9 kW hub motor, the S1 Z accelerates from 0-20 kmph in 1.8 seconds and 0-40 kmph in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 70 kmph. The S1 Z targets students, young professionals, and elderly riders.

The S1 Z+ shares the same battery and motor specs as the S1 Z but features a 14-inch LCD instrument console and larger 14-inch wheels. It’s suitable for both personal and light commercial use due to its robust build, high payload capacity, and versatile storage options.

Ola PowerPod: The Portable Power Source

Ola Electric has also launched the PowerPod, a revolutionary removable battery pack priced at Rs 9,999. This battery can power the new scooter models and small household appliances, lights, fans, and other essential devices. The PowerPod doubles as an inverter, providing three hours of power for five LED bulbs, three ceiling fans, one TV, mobile charging, and a Wi-Fi router. This dual functionality makes it particularly valuable for users in semi-urban and rural areas with limited access to stable electricity.
