JSW MG Motor has entered the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of the Comet Mini, priced at ₹4.99 lakh.
This price is part of the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) programme, which separates the battery cost from the vehicle, allowing customers to pay based on distance driven.
The BaaS programme also applies to the ZS EV, reducing its starting price by ₹4.99 lakh.
Customers will pay a battery rental of ₹2.50 per kilometre for the Comet and ₹4.50 for the ZS EV, plus approximately ₹1 per kilometre for charging.
Buyers can also opt to purchase the vehicle with the battery included, receiving a 60% buyback value after three years.
The BaaS model, first introduced with the ₹9.99 lakh Windsor EV, requires a minimum monthly payment for 1,500 kilometres of battery usage, costing ₹5,250.
This model functions similarly to a mobile data plan, with extra charges for exceeding the mileage.
Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer at JSW MG Motor India, stated that this model makes EV ownership more accessible, aiming to increase adoption in India.
The Comet Mini, a two-door urban EV with a range of 230 kilometres, accommodates four passengers.
In contrast, the ZS EV is a 4.3-metre SUV with a range of 461 kilometres, competing with Tata’s Curvv and BYD’s Seal in the growing Indian EV market.
