India’s automobile exports climbed 19 per cent in fiscal year 2024‑25 to reach 5.3 million units, driven by rising overseas demand for passenger vehicles, two‑wheelers and commercial vehicles, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers reported Monday.

Total outbound shipments grew from 4.5 million units in fiscal 2023‑24, which ended March 31, 2024, to just over 5.3 million in the year through March 31, 2025. Passenger vehicle exports rose 15 per cent to 770,364 units, compared with 372,105 units in the previous year.

Two‑wheeler exports led volume, increasing 21 per cent to 4,198,403 units in 2024‑25, up from 3,458,416 a year earlier. Utility vehicle shipments jumped 54 per cent to 362,160 units, against 234,720 units in fiscal 2023‑24. Commercial vehicle exports expanded 23 per cent, from 65,818 to 80,986 units. Other segments together accounted for approximately 310,000 units, a 2 per cent rise over the prior year.

SIAM attributed the export surge to higher production of global‑spec models in India and entry into developed markets following quality improvements. “Demand for India‑built vehicles has widened into new territories,” SIAM said in its annual release.

Key destinations included markets in Africa and neighboring countries, which remain priorities for Indian manufacturers. Industry analysts say continued model upgrades and technology integration could sustain export growth in fiscal 2025‑26.
