Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corporation Limited (APGDC) has sought extension of deadline for completion of Kakinada-Vizag-Srikakulam Natural Gas Pipeline (KSPL). The ambitious project's execution has been adversely affected due to Covid-19 pandemic and systems formed in the Bay of Bengal causing incessant rain in the recent past.
The project aimed at developing a natural gas supply and distribution network to transport and distribute through a pipeline to the automobile sector and other industries. Piped gas supply is mooted as part of the gas grid to cater to the demands of various sectors in the length and breadth of the State. CNG and other natural gas will be supplied as a sustainable energy consumption.
Once completed, the project is expected to attract an estimated Capex of $13.5 million. It is being executed by VSKL as a joint venture by APGDCL and Gail Gas (a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL Ltd). After getting due clearance, laying of the offshore pipeline with maximum diameter of 24 inches for an estimated 350 km is now in progress. Petroleum Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has authorised KSPL wayback on July 16, 2014. The target date of the completion for Kakinada to Vizag section of KSPL pipeline was June 30, 2021 and for Vizag to Srikakulam section is June 30, 2022.
