Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to meet the increasing demand for power, which is expected to reach 240 million units per day in the coming days with the increase in temperatures.

CMD of APTransco and MD of APGENCO B Sreedhar after a review meeting directed the officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply in summer. He said the utilities should be ready to meet any demand in view of rise in temperatures in coming months. Sreedhar, who is also the Energy Secretary, said the government's special focus is on 9-hour day time power to agriculture. He said the engineers/staff of power utilities should be vigilant to avoid issues in power supply and continue the quality power to consumers.

Average demand is expected to go up in April to 222.8 MU per day. The Chief Minister & the Energy Minister are highly committed to 9-hour daytime power to agriculture, he said. The Energy Secretary asked the power utilities to implement necessary steps to meet the electricity demand no matter how much it increases in the summer and to provide uninterrupted quality power to consumers.

The action plan is being implemented by the utilities to meet the expected energy demand for March to May-2022 which is forecasted to be 20,143 MU that is expected to rise by 5.6 per cent compared to 19,066 MU for the same period in 2021.
