A small step to contain plastic pollution

Here is a small idea which helps in containing plastic pollution. And though unique, it does not cost anything. Considering the plastic pollution problem we have, the idea is very effective.

The idea is to contain disposable plastic waste like milk sachets, curd sachets, edible oil covers, the plastic cover inside biscuit packets, plastic glasses, any plastic content which we dispose of in dry waste bin loosely.

Srinivas Rao K, an M-Tech graduate and the innovator of this small idea, explains: "Such dry plastic wasteshould be put into a disposable plastic bottle till it gets tightly packed. After that we can give that container or bottle filled with the dry plastic waste to waste collector, or rag pickers or even to municipality truck, or we can put into dry waste bin. I practised it. It's very effective".

This way, we can save a lot of space and preventing the loose plastic waste from flying hither and thither, he says.

According to him, loose plastic covers occupy lot of valuable space, they choke drains, they add to plastic pollution, they go into green fields, wells etc and loose plastic covers can be eaten by animals, which is harmful to them and sometimes turns fatal. Some people burn plastic waste causing much pollution and health damage from the toxic fumes. He suggests that next we can think of how we can use these packed bottles like bricks to build compound walls or in more effective way other than recycling.
