Visakhapatnam: VISAKHAPATNAM is expected to become a destination for golf tourism soon with East Point Golf Club (EPGC) undergoing a makeover to host national and international events.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh inaugurated a 6,800-yard Championship Course during the weekend. The course was designed by Bengaluru-based designer Nandan Heblikar. Today the EPGC has a lush green surrounding with mango and palm trees, serene hills on one side and the calm waters of Mudasarlova Reservoir on the other side giving an alluring experience to the golfers.
New allocation of 12.72 acres adjacent to the existing 99 acres gave the much needed boost to the club keeping the future plans in mind.
According to EPGC secretary RVS Rudraraju, the club is determined to elevate itself to a Category 'A' golf course. The Indian Golf Union made it mandatory for golf clubs to be a Category 'A' to host professional golf tournaments. EPGC is also looking at getting world-class facilities at the club to host international golf players.
The club has set up a Greens Committee which will work along with the managing committee to re-develop the 18 holes such that they are playable all times with minimum disturbance.
