In a significant move to address food waste and hunger, food delivery giant Swiggy has launched the 'Swiggy Serves' program in partnership with the Robin Hood Army (RHA), a volunteer-driven organization. The initiative aims to redistribute surplus food from restaurant partners to underserved communities across the country.

Tackling Hunger and Food Waste

Swiggy’s program focuses on transforming surplus food into a resource for combating hunger while reducing waste along its supply chain. During the pilot phase, over 2,000 meals were redistributed in 33 cities, with the support of more than 126 restaurant partners.

Some of the participating brands include popular names like Bikkgane Biryani, Biryani by the Kilo, Dana Choga, Charcoal Eats, and Babai Tiffins, among others.

Robin Hood Army's Role

The Robin Hood Army, a zero-funds organization, relies on volunteers – including young professionals, homemakers, retired individuals, and college students – to collect and distribute surplus food from restaurants, weddings, and events. Over the past decade, the RHA has served 153 million meals in 406 cities globally.

Swiggy’s Commitment

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, highlighted the company’s vision to use its logistics expertise to address societal challenges.

“With ‘Swiggy Serves,’ we aim to ensure that no meal goes to waste while making a meaningful impact on hunger. We’re thrilled to partner with RHA and expand this initiative to more cities,” Kapoor said.

Currently operational in 33 cities, Swiggy plans to expand the program nationwide to maximize its impact.

This partnership showcases how businesses and communities can collaborate to create solutions for pressing social issues, emphasizing Swiggy's role beyond food delivery into driving positive change.
