Shares of Nintendo Co. plunged Monday after the company said it would postpone U.S. preorders for its Switch 2 console amid uncertainty over tariffs imposed by the U.S. government.
Nintendo said it would not begin U.S. preorders on April 9, 2025, to assess the impact of the tariffs and market conditions.
Tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump include a 10 per cent levy on all imports, a 24 per cent duty on electronics from Japan and a 46 per cent tariff on products made in Vietnam, where Nintendo shifted some production.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, shares fell as much as 10 per cent to their lowest level since mid-January and were trading down 6.5 per cent at 05:17 GMT.
Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 launch date remains June 5, 2025.
