Hyderabad Once theatre plays were very popular, but with films taking center stage, theater art has taken a backseat. Currently, only a few plays are performed in cities, but towns and villages lack the infrastructure for artists to perform.

With an intent to bridge this gap, Zee Theatre brought theatre to television screens and they has announced plans to expand their repertoire and bring their most celebrated teleplays (plays recorded for television) to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in Telugu languages.

Zee Theatre brings its socially relevant teleplays, such as Gunehgaar, Sir Sir Sarla, and Gudiya Ki Shaadi, dubbed into Telugu. Many of these plays are thoughtfully curated historical narratives, suspense thrillers, legal dramas, and socially relevant human stories featuring well-known actors who are familiar to Telugu-speaking audiences like Shweta Basu Prasad, Ashutosh Rana, Makarand Deshpande.

The people in Telugu States will also see well-known performers like Gajraj Rao, Himani Shivpuri, MitaVashisht, Rajeev Khandelwal, Govind Namdev, AahanaKumra among others in Zee Theatre's most popular offerings like 'Gunehgaar', 'Rishton Ka Live Telecast', 'Agnipankh', 'Wrong Turn', 'Sir SirSarla', 'Internal Affairs', 'Maa Retire Hoti Hai', 'Court Martial', 'SachKahoonToh ' and 'Shyam Ki Mummy'.

Shailja Kejriwal, Chief Creative Officer - Special Projects, ZEE, says, "Theatre cannot be restricted to just one language. It is rooted in universal concerns and speaks to and for all human beings. This is one of the reasons why we have strategized to make our offerings accessible to culturally vibrant states like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”
