Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor was overcome with emotion during a recent fashion event in Gurugram, as she paid tribute to the legendary designer Rohit Bal, who passed away in November 2024. The emotional moment occurred during her ramp walk at the Blenders Pride X FDCI Fashion Tour 2025 on Saturday, where she appeared visibly moved, even shedding tears. Sonam also greeted the audience with folded hands as a gesture of respect.
For the occasion, she wore a white outfit paired with an intricately embellished ivory jacket, completing the look with her hair tied back and adorned with red flowers. The fashion show, which honored Rohit Bal, featured a special runway presentation with sixty-three prominent figures from various industries, including filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, designers JJ Valaya, and other actors like Eesha Gupta, Rahul Dev, and Mughda Godse, all walking in tribute.
The emotional moment was captured in several videos shared across social media platforms. One of the videos, posted by Vural Bhayani on Instagram, showed Sonam visibly breaking down while remembering the late designer.
Sonam shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, posting a series of photos and videos from the event. In her caption, she expressed, “It was an honor to walk in tribute to the legendary Rohit Bal at @fdciofficial x @blenderspridefashiontour. His artistry, vision, and legacy have shaped Indian fashion in ways beyond measure. Stepping onto the runway in his memory was both emotional and inspiring—celebrating a designer who was, and always will be, an icon.”
Rohit Bal, a pioneering figure in Indian fashion, passed away on November 1, 2024, at the age of 63 after battling a heart ailment. He was one of the founding members of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and was known for his ability to blend traditional Indian patterns with modern sensibilities, reshaping the fashion landscape.
The FDCI also paid tribute to him, stating, “His legacy of artistry, and innovation along with forward thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace GUDDA. You are a legend.”
Rohit Bal had faced several health issues, including a heart scare in 2023, but made a remarkable comeback in October 2024, showcasing his latest collection at the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI 2024 grand finale, where Bollywood actress Ananya Panday was the showstopper.
