Deepika Padukone had a stellar year with three of her movies—Fighter, Kalki 2898-AD, and Singham Again—making it to IMDb's list of popular films. As 2024 draws to a close, IMDb has revealed its most popular Indian movie of the year, and it's a surprise hit from the South. Contrary to expectations, the top spot didn’t go to highly anticipated releases like Singham Again, Stree 2, or Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Instead, a South Indian blockbuster has taken the crown.

This year saw Stree 2 and Singham Again achieving blockbuster status at the box office.

Most Popular Indian Movies of 2024

IMDb released its list on Wednesday, with Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s Kalki 2898-AD emerging as the most popular Indian movie of 2024. It was followed by Stree 2 in the second spot and Maharaja in the third.

Filmmaker Nag Ashwin expressed his joy at his film's success. “It’s truly amazing to see Kalki 2898-AD being celebrated as IMDb’s Most Popular Indian Movie of 2024. This recognition is a testament to the love and support of our incredible audience, who embraced the film with open hearts. We poured our souls into the film, and it’s so humbling to see it resonate with all ages across the world,” he said in a statement.

Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan’s Shaitaan secured the fourth spot, while Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter came in fifth.

The list includes seven Hindi titles, with the remaining spots filled by one Telugu film (Kalki 2898-AD), one Tamil film (Maharaja), and one Malayalam film (Manjummel Boys at sixth place).

The popularity of sequels like Stree 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (seventh place), and Singham Again (ninth place) highlights the audience’s continuing love for established franchises. Additionally, Raghav Juyal’s Kill claimed the eighth spot, and Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies rounded out the list in the tenth position.
