The aerial action drama Sky Force, featuring Akshay Kumar and debutant Veer Pahariya, witnessed a significant drop in box office earnings on its first Monday after the Republic Day weekend. Despite a strong opening weekend, the film saw a 77 per cent decrease in collections, earning Rs 6.25 crore on Monday compared to Rs 28 crore on Sunday.
The film, which had grossed over Rs 60 crore during its opening weekend, now stands at Rs 68.5 crore in domestic nett collections after four days of release. Industry estimates suggest that the total earnings could surpass Rs 75 crore once the official numbers are released.
Sky Force had been performing well in its initial days, driven by positive audience reactions. However, the drop on Monday was anticipated due to the end of the Republic Day holiday period. The filmmakers are now hoping for a recovery in collections on Tuesday. In addition to its domestic success, Sky Force has also made a mark internationally, grossing approximately $800K in its opening weekend. The overseas earnings contributed more than Rs 6.5 crore to the film's total, bringing the worldwide collection to an estimated Rs 90 crore by the end of its fourth day.
Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, Sky Force is inspired by the 1965 Indo-Pakistani air war and the Sargodha airbase attack. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahariya, Sara Ali Khan, and Sharad Kelkar, with a cameo by Nimrat Kaur.
The filmmakers and production team are now focusing on maintaining the film's momentum, hoping that positive word-of-mouth and solid performances in the coming days will help it reach the Rs 100 crore milestone.
