In a recent development regarding the use of film footage in Nayanthara's documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, Sivaji Productions has issued a clarification. The production house, responsible for the 2005 film Chandramukhi, where Nayanthara starred alongside Rajinikanth, confirmed that the actress had obtained the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the use of footage in the Netflix series. This comes after rumors circulated that Sivaji Productions had demanded Rs 5 crore for the footage's inclusion.
The clarification was shared by Tamil film industry expert Manobala Vijayabalan on social media, where he posted the NOC issued by Sivaji Productions. The document explicitly stated that the production house had no objection to the use of specific footage from Chandramukhi in the Netflix documentary. The NOC also affirmed that Rowdy Pictures, the production company owned by Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, had been granted permission to use, reproduce, distribute, and sublicense the footage for the documentary's exclusive use. The statement further assured that no claims or disputes would arise from the authorized use of the footage.
The confusion regarding the Rs 5 crore demand appears to be unfounded, as the NOC did not mention any financial transaction. This has effectively dismissed rumors that Sivaji Productions had sought payment for the use of the Chandramukhi clips.
Nayanthara’s Beyond the Fairy Tale, which delves into her personal and professional life, began streaming on Netflix India in November 2023. The documentary has sparked significant attention, especially given the controversies surrounding its content and the use of archival footage from Nayanthara's past films.
This clarification comes on the heels of a separate legal dispute involving Nayanthara and actor Dhanush. Earlier, Dhanush had sent a legal notice to Nayanthara, her husband, and Netflix India, demanding Rs 10 crore for the unauthorized use of footage from his 2015 production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary. The notice was triggered by a brief behind-the-scenes clip that appeared in the documentary without Dhanush's permission.
The clash with Dhanush, however, is not the only legal issue Nayanthara has faced recently. Her documentary, produced by Rowdy Pictures, has been a subject of public interest, with discussions about the portrayal of her life and career in the film.
