In a surprising turn of events, a seemingly harmless scene from the Tamil film Amaran has caused significant distress to engineering student VV Vaageesan.
The scene, where actress Sai Pallavi casually shows a paper with a phone number, has led to Vaageesan claiming that the number displayed in the film belongs to him.
This has disrupted his life, prompting him to file a ₹1.1 crore lawsuit against the filmmakers for the "untold hardships and mental agony" he has faced.
In the movie, Sai Pallavi’s character, Indu Rebecca Verghese, tosses a crumpled paper with a mobile number written on it to Major Mukund Varadarajan, played by Sivakarthikeyan. Vaageesan later discovered that the number shown in the film was actually his own.
Truecaller Naming Error
The situation worsened when someone saved Vaageesan's number in the Truecaller app as “Vaageesan Indu Rebbbica VV.”
Truecaller allows users to manually add contact details, and it appears that a fan of the movie did just that, linking Vaageesan's number to the character of Indu Rebecca.
This led to even more confusion, with people mistakenly calling Vaageesan to reach the fictional character, further disturbing his life.
Vaageesan shared his frustrations with The Hindu, revealing that the constant barrage of calls has forced him to silence his phone. He expressed concern that he might miss important calls, as his number is linked to his bank accounts and shared with many contacts. "I can't even book a cab now because of the non-stop calls," he added.
A telecom company confirmed that Vaageesan raised the issue, and they are in the process of addressing his complaint. However, no further details were provided.
Initially, Vaageesan reached out to director Rajkumar Periyasamy and actor Sivakarthikeyan on social media, hoping they would help resolve the issue. However, he claims to have received no response.
