Shillong gears up for Bryan Adams' first-ever performance
The city of Shillong is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host legendary Canadian rock star Bryan Adams for his inaugural performance in the region. Known for iconic hits like "Summer of '69" and "Everything I Do (I Do It for You)," Adams' music has profoundly influenced Shillong, often referred to as India’s rock capital.
For years, Adams' timeless tunes have been a major part of Shillong's music scene, inspiring local youth to embrace pop and rock culture. Many young musicians have swapped their traditional instruments for guitars, channeling their creativity into Western rock music.
For long-time fans, this concert represents the culmination of decades of admiration. "I've been listening to Bryan Adams since the '80s. His songs were at every party, every gathering," says 64-year-old Robert Kharshiing, an employee. "For someone like me, who grew up with his music, this concert is a dream come true." Clara Nongbet, 60, a homemaker, shares the same sentiment. "I remember sitting with friends, listening to his songs on tape recorders during college. His music gave us hope, love, and friendship. Seeing him live will bring back those golden days."
Younger fans are just as excited. "I started playing guitar because of Bryan Adams. His music defined what rock should sound like. It feels unreal to see him perform live in Shillong," says 23-year-old musician, who credits Adams for shaping his musical journey.
For many families, the concert is a special occasion. "My dad introduced me to Bryan Adams when I was a child. We've bonded over his music for years, and now we're going to watch him perform together. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us."
Beyond the performance itself, the event holds significance for Shillong as a cultural destination. "This concert puts our city on the global music map. We're proud to host someone whose music has meant so much to us," says another excited festival-goer.
The concert will take place at the JN Stadium in Polo, with measures in place to protect the renowned football turf, which the Chief Minister has promoted as one of the best in the country. The event will also feature a spectacular drone show, with local bands LB3 Collective, Snow White, and Blue Temptation opening for Bryan Adams.
