Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has strongly criticized the arrest of actor Allu Arjun in connection with a stampede that occurred during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule in Hyderabad. He called on celebrities to unite and protest against Arjun’s arrest.
On December 13, Allu Arjun was arrested by the Chikkadapally Police and held overnight at Chanchalaguda Central Jail before being released the following day. Varma took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his views, urging that all stars speak out against the arrest, questioning whether being highly popular is a crime for celebrities.
Allu Arjun was arrested after his visit to the Pushpa 2 premiere at Sandhya Theatre on December 4.
His presence at the theatre caused a stampede, leading to a woman's death and her son's injury. The police filed an FIR against him and police too him into custody on December 13. However, he was released after obtaining an interim bail.
Many raised question on why Allu Arjun didn't visit the hospital where the child was undergoing treatment. However, the actor took to Instagram to say that he was advised not to visit the victim the hospital due to legal reasons but expressed concern for her well-being.
