Ram Charan Discusses ‘Game Changer’ and Working with Shankar
Ram Charan’s eagerly awaited film Game Changer is slated for a release on Friday, coinciding with the Sankranti festival, a prime time for movie releases in Telugu cinema. At a recent promotional event in Mumbai, the actor opened up about his long-standing admiration for renowned director Shankar and his aspirations to collaborate with him.
Charan recalled an unforgettable moment at the premiere of Shankar’s Telugu remake of 3 Idiots, Nanban. It was during this event that Charan first thought about approaching the director to helm a Telugu project. Though he entertained the idea of working with Shankar, he hesitated, unsure of whether to make the request. He even considered suggesting that Shankar direct a film with his father, the legendary actor Chiranjeevi. However, Charan admitted that he lacked the courage to bring it up at the time.
As the final days of shooting for RRR wrapped up, Charan received unexpected news from producer Dil Raju: Shankar wanted to meet him to discuss a potential project. Initially skeptical, Charan was soon left astounded when he learned that the offer was genuine. For the actor, this was a surreal moment, as working with Shankar had been a dream for years.
“I thought, I’ll talk to you later... like Shankar sir would ever come to you for a film,” Charan reflected. “But then I realized it was true, and I immediately called Raju sir. It was such a dream come true for me.”
Charan went on to praise Shankar, referring to him as the “first pan-Indian director,” acknowledging the director’s significant role in shaping the Indian film industry. He expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to work with a filmmaker he had long admired.
Game Changer is a political action thriller where Ram Charan takes on dual roles. He portrays an IAS officer named Ram Nandan and his father Appanna, a prominent political leader. Kiara Advani plays the role of Ram Nandan’s love interest. The film, directed by Shankar, is expected to captivate audiences with its high-stakes drama and intense political narrative.
