Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, the sequel to Pushpa: The Rise, has surpassed Baahubali 2: The Conclusion at the global box office, cementing its place as the second-highest grossing Indian film ever. The film, directed by Sukumar, has now accumulated a staggering Rs 1,799 crore worldwide, just shy of joining the Rs 1,800-crore club. The makers celebrated the achievement with a special announcement on social media.

Released in December 2024, Pushpa 2 has overtaken Baahubali 2, which grossed Rs 1,788 crore globally upon its release in 2017. The success of Pushpa 2 has been driven by impressive collections both in India and overseas, with the film continuing to captivate audiences across the world.

In India, Pushpa 2 has achieved remarkable success at the box office. The film has garnered Rs 1,189.85 crore nett so far, including Rs 69.75 crore in its fourth week of release. The first-week earnings were a massive Rs 725.8 crore nett, while the second-week collections reached Rs 264.8 crore nett. Even in the third week, the movie maintained strong momentum, collecting Rs 128.6 crore nett.

A significant contributor to Pushpa 2's box office performance has been the Hindi-dubbed version, which alone has grossed Rs 778.4 crore nett. This version has been crucial in driving the overall revenue, while the Telugu version has earned Rs 331.81 crore nett. The Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions of the film have collectively added Rs 79.64 crore nett to the total.

While Pushpa 2 continues to dominate the box office, the situation has been different for Baby John, a film starring Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh. Directed by Kalees and co-produced by Atlee, the film has struggled to make an impact. As of Day 9, Baby John only managed to earn Rs 36.40 crore nett domestically, with a meager Rs 1 crore nett on Day 9 alone.

In international box office news, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has made an impressive debut in India. After two weeks in theaters, the film has grossed Rs 124.6 crore nett, surpassing the Rs 45.75 crore nett earned by the 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King during the same period. The Hindi-dubbed version of Mufasa leads with Rs 44.15 crore nett, while the original English version follows closely with Rs 41.9 crore nett.

Finally, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven The Hunter, which was released in India on January 1, has seen a modest start. In its first two days, the film earned Rs 1.17 crore nett, a relatively low collection compared to other recent releases.
