Police Ramp Up Investigation into Kannada Actress's Death in Hyderabad

The body of Kannada actress Shobitha Shivanna, who was discovered dead at her residence, was returned to her family on Monday following an autopsy as Cyberabad police ramped up their investigation into the incident. Many relatives from the film and television industry rushed to Hyderabad from Bengaluru upon hearing the news of her death.

The 29-year-old actress's remains were handed over after the autopsy at the government-run Osmania General Hospital. They were subsequently transported to Bengaluru, where her family resides, with last rites expected to take place on Tuesday. Shobitha was found dead in her residence located in Kondapur, Gachibowli, on Sunday.

Her husband, Sudheer Reddy, discovered her hanging after he broke open the bedroom door when she did not respond to repeated knocks. Originally from Sakleshpur in Karnataka’s Hassan district, Shobitha had been living in Hyderabad with her husband, a software engineer, for the past two years. The reasons behind Shobitha’s alleged suicide remain unclear. Police reportedly located a suicide note indicating, "Everything perfect—if you want to commit suicide, you can do it."

Gachibowli police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. They are exploring all angles and assessing whether she may have had any psychological issues. Investigators are gathering statements from family members, friends, and neighbours as part of the inquiry.

According to Shobitha’s father-in-law, Bucchi Reddy, the couple was leading a happy married life and did not face any problems. He noted that the family welcomed Shobitha as their own daughter. Shobitha had appeared in several Kannada serials, including Brahmagantu, Ninidale, and Mangala Gowri, as well as films like ATM: Attempt to Murder. She had stepped back from acting after her marriage. Sudheer Reddy had proposed to her after finding her profile on a matrimonial site.
