Actress Nayanthara recently criticised Tamil actor Dhanush over a dispute regarding the documentary on her life, titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, set to release on Netflix on the 18th of this month. The documentary includes a brief 3-second clip from the film Naanum Rowdy Daan, produced by Dhanush. He has issued a notice demanding Rs. 10 crores under the Copyright Act for using the clip without his permission.
In response, Nayanthara took to social media, expressing her disappointment that Dhanush did not allow her to contact him for approval. She shared an open letter, stating that the documentary chronicles her career, love life, and marriage, and it was disheartening that Naanum Rowdy Daan was causing friction between them. Nayanthara mentioned that she had been trying to obtain permission for almost two years to use photos, videos, and songs from the film but had been met with resistance. Despite waiting for approval, they eventually moved ahead with the release.
She expressed her hurt over Dhanush's refusal and the demand for Rs.10 crores for a mere 3-second clip, calling it a reflection of his character. Nayanthara also criticised the ongoing personal vendetta, noting how it was affecting everyone involved in the project. In her letter, she reminisced about Naanum Rowdy Daan as a pivotal film in her career, as it marked the beginning of her relationship with director Vignesh Shivan, whom she later married.
Dhanush has yet to respond to Nayanthara's accusations.
