Mammootty’s Bramayugam used as case study in UK film school

Mammootty’s 2024 horror film Bramayugam has once again grabbed global attention! A video showcasing the film being studied as part of the curriculum at the University of Creative Arts (UCA) in the United Kingdom has gone viral on social media.

The clip, shared on Instagram by a UCA student, reveals that Bramayugam is being used as a case study to teach sound design. The video quickly caught the attention of the film’s director, Rahul Sadasivan, who reshared it as an Instagram story.

A Global Recognition for Bramayugam

Released in February 2024, Bramayugam was one of the most anticipated films of the year, especially because it featured Mammootty in a chilling negative role. Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, the black-and-white horror drama received widespread acclaim from cinephiles worldwide.

Set in the 17th century, the film follows Paanan (Arjun Ashokan), a wandering courtroom singer who stumbles upon an eerie mansion owned by Kodumon Potti (Mammootty), a mysterious black magician. Initially appearing hospitable, Potti’s true nature is soon revealed—he is actually Chaathan, a sinister deity from ancient folklore. As Paanan realizes he’s trapped, the eerie horror unfolds.

This marks Sadasivan’s third directorial venture and his first collaboration with Mammootty. The film also features Siddharth Bharathan, Manikandan Achari, and Amalda Liz in key roles. Produced by YNOT Studios in collaboration with Night Shift Studios, Bramayugam boasts stellar cinematography by Shehnad Jalaal and sharp editing by Shafique Muhammed Ali.

Mammootty’s Upcoming Projects

Following Bramayugam, Mammootty was recently seen in Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse, a comedy mystery directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, which marked the filmmaker’s Malayalam debut. While the film received mixed reviews at the box office, the veteran actor is gearing up for his next big release.

Mammootty will soon be seen in Bazooka, an action thriller directed by debutant Deeno Dennis. Featuring an ensemble cast including Gautham Vasudev Menon, Babu Antony, Shine Tom Chacko, and Shammi Thilakan, the film is set to hit theaters on April 10, 2025.

With Bramayugam making waves in international film education, it’s clear that the movie’s impact goes beyond the silver screen.
