‘Kannappa’: Mohanlal Joins Vishnu Manchu in Pan-Indian Action Drama
The much-anticipated action drama Kannappa features celebrated actor Mohanlal portraying the role of Kirata, a master of the legendary Pashupatastra. The makers recently unveiled his character look poster, drawing attention to the Malayalam superstar’s striking transformation.
Actor Vishnu Manchu, who also stars in Kannappa, took to social media to share the poster. Accompanying it, he expressed his admiration for Mohanlal, writing, “'KIRATA'! The legend Sri. Mohanlal in #Kannappa. It’s a privilege to share the screen with one of the finest actors of our time. This sequence will be spectacular!”
Mohanlal’s character is described as “the victor over the victorious, the legendary Kirata of the forest,” highlighting his commanding presence in the film.
The character’s rugged tribal look has drawn comparisons to actor Suriya’s appearance in the Tamil film Kanguva. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 25, 2025. Vishnu Manchu plays the titular role, with the movie highlighting the story of Kannappa, described as “the bravest warrior and ultimate devotee.” The film promises a pan-Indian appeal and is rooted in mythology.
The Telugu-Hindi bilingual film is being produced on a grand scale with an estimated budget between Rs 100-200 crores. The script has been developed by a team of writers, including Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, Eshwar Reddy, G. Nageswara Reddy, and Thota Prasad. Acclaimed cinematographer Sheldon Chau has been brought on board to handle the visuals, while Anthony oversees the editing.
Mohanlal, who is currently gearing up for the release of Barroz, has a packed schedule. The 3D fantasy adventure is set to hit cinemas on December. Recently, Mohanlal launched the Kannada trailer of the film, sharing his excitement with a tweet: “The #Barroz3D Kannada trailer is out now! Thrilled to bring this magical adventure to Kannada audiences, presented by #PVRPictures. Experience it in cinemas from December 25.”
With Kannappa and Barroz lined up, fans are awaiting to see Mohanlal in diverse and impactful roles.
