India has 547.3 million OTT users: Ormax Media
A new report by Ormax titled ‘OTT Audience Report’ suggests that India has 547.3 million OTT users, but active paid subscriptions remain at only 99.96 million.
Active paid OTT subscriptions in India remain at only 99.96 million.
Cinemas and Indians are synonymous with each other due to the huge demand for movies in the subcontinent.
Whether on the large screen or OTT, Indians love watching movies, and India also produces over 800 feature films every year.
A new report by Ormax has further confirmed this strong love for cinema among Indians.
The ‘OTT Audience Report’ revealed that India boasts 547.3 million OTT users, highlighting the widespread engagement with digital content.
However, despite this impressive number, active paid subscriptions remain at only 99.96 million.
Ormax surveyed around 12,000 people in both urban and rural India during June and July. The report also revealed that 38.4% of India’s population has access to and uses streaming services.
The overall increase in the video-on-demand market is mainly due to the growth in AVoD (advertising video-on-demand) services.
In contrast, SVoD (subscription video-on-demand) services have experienced a slight decline.
As per Ormax, OTT audiences are the ones who have watched at least one online video in the past month, including both free and paid content.
In 2024, the average number of streaming subscriptions per person fell from 2.8 to 2.5, indicating that people are subscribing to fewer services.
As expected, people have preferred watching movies on their smartphones, with a significant number using them exclusively for OTT content. Connected TVs have a smaller audience compared to smartphones.
