Mumbai, Jan 25: The School of Design at DY Patil International University, Akurdi, Pune hosted an engaging event on January 23 to mark the launch of the short film ‘Hero of Asia’, commemorating the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The film, a collaborative effort, has been written and directed by Dr Shubhro Chakrabartty, a faculty member of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Research and co-produced by Kumud Das from the School of Media and Journalism.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a captivating classical dance performance by two students, set to the poem Mein Subhas Bol Raha Hoon, penned by Dr Chakrabartty. Distinguished guests, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Prabhat Ranjan and Co-Vice Chancellor Dr Sandeep Chatterjee, graced the occasion alongside faculty members and notable dignitaries.
Prof Ranjan inaugurated the screening by addressing the audience, sharing inspirational anecdotes about freedom fighters and discussing the transformative role of AI in contemporary filmmaking. The event highlighted Netaji’s values of unity, self-reliance, courage, patriotism, and leadership, with Dr Chakrabartty and Das delving into his enduring legacy and its relevance for today’s youth.
Students from the School of Design demonstrated exceptional skill in anchoring the event, which concluded with a stirring rendition of the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The film received widespread acclaim, with attendees praising the director, co-producer, and the efforts of Aziz M. Poonawala and the School of Design team for organizing such a successful and memorable program.
