Emraan Hashmi Marks World Cancer Day, Highlights Early Detection & Healthcare

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi marked World Cancer Day with a message highlighting the significance of early cancer detection and applauding government healthcare initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

In a video message, Hashmi reflected on his personal experience after his son Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer. “When Ayaan was diagnosed, our world changed completely. But through resilience and the incredible support we received, we realized how vital early detection and timely treatment are in fighting cancer,” he said.

He highlighted how schemes like Ayushman Bharat and PMJAY are making cancer treatment more accessible for families across India. “As parents, we understand how overwhelming the journey can be. However, initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and PMJAY are transforming access to treatment, reducing financial strain, and offering hope. On World Cancer Day, I urge everyone to undergo regular screenings and spread awareness. Healthcare must be accessible to all, regardless of their financial background,” Hashmi added.

Ayaan Hashmi was diagnosed with first-stage cancer in January 2014. After undergoing treatment, he was declared cancer-free in January 2019.

Hashmi, who was last seen in the streaming series Showtime, also spoke about his brief stint as a film producer. Reflecting on his experience, he stated, “I don’t think I am suited for the role of a producer. I tried it once, but I was more focused on my acting role, leaving the producer responsibilities in the background. Creativity drives me more than business.”

World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4, aims to raise awareness and encourage preventive measures. Hashmi’s message adds to the global conversation on early detection and healthcare accessibility, reinforcing the importance of awareness campaigns and government-backed healthcare programs.
