English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran captivated the audience in Bengaluru by performing the popular Telugu song Chuttamalle from the film Devara during his concert on Sunday. The unexpected performance, featuring playback singer Shilpa Rao, drew an overwhelming response from the crowd, with the video quickly gaining traction on social media.

The track, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, originally gained massive popularity upon the release of Devara, starring Jr. NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. Since then, Chuttamalle has transcended regional boundaries, garnering international recognition. Sheeran’s rendition, sung in Telugu with a distinct British accent, created a unique experience for attendees, many of whom sang along as he performed.

During the Bengaluru concert, Sheeran invited Shilpa Rao, the original singer of Chuttamalle, to join him on stage. The duo delivered a special performance, with Sheeran attempting the Telugu lyrics while Rao provided vocal support. The moment, particularly the song’s signature “Aa” sound, had the audience cheering and clapping in excitement. The video of the performance has since gone viral, with social media users praising Sheeran’s effort to embrace Indian music.

Sheeran later shared footage of himself learning the song alongside Shilpa Rao. Social media reactions highlighted the growing global appeal of Indian music, with many commending Sheeran’s effort in bringing Telugu music to an international platform.

Ahead of the concert, Sheeran planned to give a surprise street performance at Church Street in Bengaluru. However, local police intervened, citing the lack of required permissions. Despite prior approvals obtained by Sheeran’s team, authorities halted the performance, leading the singer to address the issue on Instagram. “We got permission in advance. This was not a last-minute decision. It was all planned,” Sheeran wrote, assuring fans that the concert would proceed as scheduled.

The Bengaluru concert was part of Sheeran’s India tour, which included previous performances in Hyderabad and Chennai. His Chennai concert attracted a massive audience, with notable figures such as music director AR Rahman attending the event. Following Bengaluru, Sheeran is scheduled to perform in Shillong and Delhi before concluding his India tour.
