Dhanush Sues Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan Over Netflix Documentary Dispute

Actor Dhanush, representing his production company Wunderbar Films Private Limited, has filed a lawsuit against actor Nayanthara, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, their production house Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, and two others for allegedly using unauthorised clips from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. The case was heard by the Madras High Court on November 27.

During the proceedings, Justice Abdul Quiddhose directed Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and the other defendants to respond to the allegations made against them.

The documentary, which explores Nayanthara's career journey, struggles, and personal life, was released on Netflix on November 18, her birthday. Before the release, Nayanthara published a sharp open letter addressing Dhanush after he refused to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the use of clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.

Dhanush had previously sent a legal notice to the couple, warning of potential legal action if the BTS footage was included in the documentary. He threatened to seek damages of Rs 10 crore if they proceeded with the usage of the clips.

In her open letter, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of holding a personal grudge and described him as a tyrant. She defended the inclusion of the film's clips, claiming that the BTS visuals, shot using personal devices, were legitimate for use in the documentary.
