BookMyShow plays safe, deletes all history; erases Kunal Kamra from Platform

Comedian Kunal Kamra has been completely removed from BookMyShow, including all records of his past shows, following a political row sparked by his recent comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The move came shortly after Shiv Sena Yuva General Secretary Rahool Kanal urged the platform to stop promoting Kamra. In response, BookMyShow not only removed Kamra’s name from its artist listings but also deleted his entire show history. A search for “Kunal Kamra” on the platform now yields no relevant results, and attempts to access past show pages lead to error messages.

The controversy began after Kamra allegedly made inflammatory remarks about Shinde during a performance at The Habitat in Mumbai. Multiple FIRs have since been filed against the comedian, who is reportedly in Puducherry and has so far ignored three police summonses from Mumbai authorities.

In a letter addressed to BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemrajani, Rahool Kanal thanked the company for “keeping the platform clean” and excluding Kamra from its roster. “Thank you for respecting our sentiments and removing him from your listings and even the search history,” Kanal wrote, applauding BookMyShow’s stance.

Interestingly, Kanal himself is facing legal trouble—he and several Shiv Sena workers were arrested for allegedly vandalizing the studio where Kamra’s controversial performance took place.

Meanwhile, Kamra recently issued a public apology to a banker who attended his show, offering a free vacation as a goodwill gesture, though he has not directly addressed the controversy surrounding his remarks about Shinde.

As tensions remain high, the incident has ignited debate around freedom of speech, censorship, and the role of platforms in politically sensitive content.
