The arrival of British rock band Coldplay in India is generating significant excitement. Initially, fans expressed dissatisfaction over ticket sales and pricing, but the controversy has since escalated, putting entertainment platform BookMyShow at the centre of potential legal action.

Ashish Hemrajani, CEO and co-founder of BookMyShow, along with the company's technical head, has received fresh summons from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) regarding the alleged black marketing of tickets for the Coldplay concert scheduled at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium from January 19 to January 21, 2025.

The EOW has instructed them to appear before an investigating officer on Monday. Reports indicate that Hemrajani and the technical head have yet to contact the police. The controversy surfaced when advocate Amit Vyas accused BookMyShow of enabling the black marketing of concert tickets. Vyas alleged that tickets for Coldplay’s India tour, originally priced at ₹2,500, were being resold by third parties and influencers for as high as ₹3 lakh.

Fans were left disappointed as many struggled to secure tickets, with the queue on the ticketing platform reaching as high as one million, while third-party websites were selling tickets at exorbitant rates. Coldplay’s Mumbai concert is part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, marking their second performance in India. The band last visited in 2016 for the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai. The tour will also include stops in Abu Dhabi, Seoul, and Hong Kong between January and April 2025.
