Ashish Chanchlani backs out of Captain America screening amid India’s Got Latent controversy

Popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has decided to step down from hosting the Valentine’s Day screening of Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World in Mumbai. The announcement comes at a time when he, along with Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and others, is facing legal trouble over alleged obscenity on the show India’s Got Latent.
Ashish Chanchlani Cites Health Issues
Taking to Instagram, Ashish shared that he would not be able to attend the event due to health reasons. “Hello doston, I am not keeping well, so unfortunately I won’t be able to attend & host the screening of Captain America: Brave New World on Valentine’s Day. But don’t worry, those who are selected can still go & enjoy the show. I know I’m gonna miss y’all so much! Love you 3000,” he wrote in his story.
Although he didn’t mention the ongoing controversy, his announcement coincides with the legal issues surrounding India’s Got Latent.
What’s the Controversy?
The trouble began when Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, made an inappropriate joke about incest during an episode of India’s Got Latent. The episode featured Ashish, comedian Samay Raina, content creator Apoorva Mukhija, and others. The remark sparked outrage, leading to multiple legal complaints.
According to PTI, the Mumbai police have already recorded statements from seven individuals, including Ashish Chanchlani. Meanwhile, ANI reported that the Assam Police have issued fresh summons to Ashish, Ranveer, Apoorva, and comedian Jaspreet Singh, following a complaint about promoting obscenity. A police team from Assam has now traveled to Mumbai to continue investigations.
Ranveer and Samay Respond
Amid growing criticism, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology, calling his remark a “lack of judgment.” In a video statement, he said, “I don’t want to be the kind of person who takes this responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect. I need to use this platform better.”
Samay Raina also addressed the issue, revealing that he deleted all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube in response to the backlash. “My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly,” he stated.
As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this controversy will unfold for the creators involved.
