Amaran producers modify scene after ₹1.1 crore legal battle
In a recent update, the producers of the film Amaran have addressed a controversy involving an engineering student from Chennai, VV Vaageesan. Last month, Vaageesan sent a legal notice to the producers after his phone number was used in the film, leading to incessant calls from fans of actor Sai Pallavi.
The legal battle started when Vaageesan's phone number appeared in a scene from the Sivakarthikeyan-Sai Pallavi starrer. The scene, featured in the song "Hey Minnale," shows Sai Pallavi's character, Indu, throwing a chit with her phone number to Major Mukund, played by Sivakarthikeyan. This number, in reality, belonged to Vaageesan, resulting in a flood of calls that disrupted his life.
Responding to the notice and to avoid further issues, the makers of Amaran have blurred the phone number in both the film on Netflix and the music video on YouTube.
After the film's release on October 31, Vaageesan began receiving numerous calls while celebrating Diwali with his family. The calls escalated, asking to speak with Sai Pallavi, which led him to discover that his phone number was displayed in the movie. This incident caused significant distress as his number is linked to essential documents, including his Aadhar and bank statements, making it difficult to change. Vaageesan demanded ₹1.1 crore in compensation for the mental agony and hardships caused by this oversight and requested the removal of his number from the film immediately.
Amaran is an adaptation of Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh's book series India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes. The film narrates the life story of Major Mukund, a posthumous Ashoka Chakra awardee who died during a counterterrorism operation. Despite the controversy, Amaran has been a commercial success, grossing over ₹300 crore at the box office.
