Actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg with his revolver early this morning and was swiftly taken to the nearest hospital. He later reassured that he is out of danger. According to Mumbai Police, the incident occurred around 4:45 AM while Govinda was preparing to leave his residence for the airport. He accidentally triggered the revolver while keeping it in a cupboard.
In an audio message, Govinda stated, "I was hit by a bullet, and it has been extracted now. I thank the doctors and my fans for their prayers." The bullet struck his knee, prompting his immediate transfer to CRITICare Hospital in Mumbai.
The actor was reportedly cleaning his gun when the incident occurred. Sources indicate that he was getting ready for an early morning flight to Kolkata. Govinda was admitted to the hospital at 5:15 AM, and hospital staff have confirmed that he is now out of danger. The police have visited the scene to investigate and have taken custody of Govinda’s revolver. The incident is currently under investigation.
Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, informed the press, “Actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda was preparing to leave for Kolkata. While he was putting his licensed revolver into its case, it slipped from his hand and accidentally discharged, striking his leg. The doctor has removed the bullet, and he is doing well. A prominent Bollywood star from the 90s, Govinda began his acting career in the 80s as an action hero before shifting to comedy in the mid-90s. He quickly rose to become one of the decade's biggest box office draws, celebrated not only for his acting but also for his dynamic dance moves. However, his career began to decline after 2007, with his last notable commercial success being Partner alongside Salman Khan. In recent years, Govinda has largely stepped away from the big screen.
Known for his roles in popular comedies like Coolie No. 1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Swarg, Saajan Chale Sasural, Raja Babu, Rajaji, and Partner, Govinda's most recent film was the 2019 release Rangeela Raja, directed by Pahlaj Nihalani. Unfortunately, this film did not perform well at the box office, prompting Govinda to step back from acting.
Although Govinda has been on a hiatus since 2019, he was once a highly anticipated star in Bollywood. During the 80s and 90s, he enjoyed immense popularity. However, after 2007, his career faced challenges, with Partner being his last successful film. Despite appearing in 13 films since then, none achieved commercial success. Notable flops included Rangeela Raja, Friday, Aa Gaya Hero, Happy Ending, Kill Dil, Deewana Main Deewana, Loot, Naughty @40, Raavan, Do Knot Disturb, Life Partner, Chala Tala Chal, and Money Hai To Honey Hai, as reported by Box Office India.
In addition to his acting career, Govinda also ventured into politics, serving as a Member of Parliament and joining Shiv Sena earlier this year.
