Indian Railways has announced a recruitment drive for Level-1 posts, inviting applications from eligible candidates across the country. The recruitment, conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), includes positions in various departments such as Mechanical, Engineering, Electrical, Traffic, and S&T.
Recruitment Details
- Posts and Vacancies: A total of 32,438 Level-1 vacancies are available. Selected candidates will be appointed as Assistants, Trackmen, and Pointsmen.
- Educational Qualifications: Applicants must have passed the 10th grade, hold an ITI certificate, or possess a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) issued by NCVT.
- Age Criteria: Candidates must be between 18 and 36 years of age as of January 1, 2025. Age relaxations apply as per category norms.
- Salary: The initial pay includes a basic salary of Rs 18,000, along with allowances such as DA and HRA, totaling approximately Rs 35,000 per month.
- Application Process: Interested individuals must apply online through the official RRB website before February 22.
The recruitment process involves multiple stages:
1. Online Examination
- The test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions covering General Science (25 marks), Mathematics (25 marks), General Intelligence and Reasoning (30 marks), and General Awareness (20 marks).
- Duration: 90 minutes.
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each incorrect answer.
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Male candidates must carry a 35 kg sandbag over 100 meters in 2 minutes without dropping it and complete a 1 km run in 4 minutes 15 seconds.
- Female candidates must carry a 20 kg sandbag over 100 meters in 2 minutes without dropping it and complete a 1 km run in 5 minutes 40 seconds.
3. Document Verification and Medical Examination
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo certificate verification and medical fitness tests before final selection.
Application Fee
- Rs 250 for women, SC/ST, EBC, and transgender candidates.
- Rs 500 for all other categories. A portion of the fee will be refunded to candidates appearing for the exam.
To excel in the examination, candidates should adopt a systematic preparation approach:
1. Understand the Syllabus
- Mathematics: Focus on topics like percentages, profit and loss, time and work, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: Practice questions on analogies, coding-decoding, puzzles, data interpretation, and syllogisms.
- General Science: Study Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from Class 8–10 textbooks.
- General Awareness: Stay updated on current events, sports, culture, and developments in science and technology.
2. Practice Mock Tests
- Attempt at least 20 mock tests to improve speed and accuracy. Analyze performance to identify and rectify mistakes.
3. Use Recommended Books
- Mathematics: Objective Arithmetic by RS Aggarwal.
- Reasoning: RS Aggarwal's reasoning guides.
- General Science: NCERT textbooks for classes 8–10.
4. Time Management
- Allocate 54 seconds per question during the exam. Prioritize accuracy to minimize negative marking.
5. Focus on Key Topics
- Revise essential points from textbooks and practice previous years' question papers.
