Malaysia opens gates for tourism

Hyderabad: Malaysia has opened gates for tourism wherein all the enthusiasts can visit Malaysia to experience the beautiful sights and infrastructure, especially the well-known Petronas Towers, which is the highest visited place in the country. With a view to attracting more people, Malaysia has decided to recommence tourism visits from April 1, 2022, marking the end of travelling restriction into the country.

Leveraging this new development, Tourism Malaysia embarked on its first roadshow to six major cities in India from April 18 to 30. The roadshows are being held in the cities of Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangaloreand Chennai.

Supporting the mission of promoting tourism in Malaysia, the Manoharan Periasamy, Senior Director of International Promotion Division (Asia & Africa), heads this mission along with Malaysia's tourism fraternity which consists of three Malaysia-based airlines, 22 travel agents, four hoteliers and four product owners.

Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board,also known as Tourism Malaysia, is an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia. It focuses on the specific task of promoting Malaysia as a preferred tourism destination and since its inception, it emerged as a major player in the international tourism scene.

India has been one of the top market sources for Malaysia and contributed 735,309 arrivals in 2019. Apart from its objective to instilconfidence among Indians, the roadshow provided a platform for the industry community to bounce back and steerthe tourism sector back to its former glory. "This is the right time to be back in India and planning for this roadshow is a good opportunity."

Asked about how much revenue is generated from travel and tourism in Malaysia, Manoharan said, "Tourism is important source of revenue generation for Malaysia and has been always in the top 3 GDP contributors. In 2019 it has been 86.1 billion ringgit and in 2020 it was 12.7 billion ringgit."

He said that Malaysia is unique with multi-ethnic and cultural aspects which is a great attraction to visit at any time, without any cultural diversification.

About the safety measures a tourist must take after the pandemic broke out, Razaidi Abd Rahim, the Director of Tourism Malaysia (South India and SriLanka) said, "Since the reopening of its borders, India is on the top four arrivals to Malaysia.
