In a defining moment five years ago, Nayakanti Naga Bhavya Sree experienced a series of life-changing events. Emerging as the top female scorer in the JEE Advanced 2023, Bhavya found herself contemplating the decision her father had made to send her to Hyderabad in pursuit of her IIT dreams.
Reflecting on Kalam's teachings, Bhavya shared "Kalam sir spoke about fearlessness in the face of failure and staying composed during adversities. These ideas deeply resonated with me and continue to inspire me. I believe in giving my best and leaving the rest to destiny. My drive comes from the desire to establish my identity in society, and over these five years, I was confident that securing a top rank would bring me closer to my dreams."
Originating from Proddatur in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, Bhavya's father, Nagendra Kumar, is a mathematics teacher at a government school in Chagalamarri, Nandyal district, while her mother, Indralatha, teaches physics at a government school in Proddatur. Displaying a natural aptitude for mathematics, physics, and chemistry from an early age, Bhavya made the decision to embark on her IIT preparation journey in the 8th grade. For the past five years, she has dedicated approximately 12 to 13 hours per day to her studies.
Firmly believing that success is comprised of 70% preparation and 30% temperament during exams, Bhavya meticulously focused on both aspects. Her aim was to eliminate careless errors and thoroughly equip herself for the challenges ahead. Being exceptionally proficient in mathematics, she attributes her success to the unwavering support of her parents and the guidance provided by her educational institution.
Bhavya's remarkable achievements were further recognized when she was selected as one of the four girls from India to participate in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad in Slovenia in April 2023. Throughout her journey, she remained steadfast, leveraging her strengths and paying no heed to challenges or weaknesses. Failure was simply not an option.
Nagendra Kumar, Bhavya's father, emphasized that she has consistently excelled academically and commended her diligent efforts. As supportive teachers and parents, they never imposed any undue pressure on her, allowing Bhavya to carve her own path. They trusted in her ability to make the best decisions for herself. Based on recommendations from family friends and their own former students, they made the pivotal decision to send Bhavya to Hyderabad at the age of 12, setting the stage for her remarkable journey.
Having achieved a remarkable score of 298 out of 360 marks, Bhavya now aspires to pursue a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in computer science engineering from IIT Bombay. Looking ahead, her ambitions extend beyond borders as she envisions herself pursuing higher studies abroad, with aspirations of becoming a mathematician researcher or an entrepreneur within the next decade. Bhavya's extraordinary journey has also inspired her younger sister to chase her IIT dreams.
Bhavya's story serves as a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and unwavering support. With her sights set on a bright future, she embraces the teachings of her role model, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, as she continues to make remarkable strides in her pursuit of excellence.
