Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon his return from Ayodhya, announced the launch of the 'Pradhanmantri Suryoday Yojana,' a scheme aimed at installing solar rooftops on one crore houses in India. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister stated that this initiative is not only intended to reduce the electricity bills of the poor and middle class but also to make India self-reliant in the energy sector.

The announcement took place after the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. PM Modi emphasized the significance of energy and light in the context of Lord Shri Ram, stating, "All the devotees of the world always get energy from the light of Suryavanshi Lord Shri Ram." He further expressed his resolution that the people of India should have solar rooftop systems on their houses.

The scheme, 'Pradhanmantri Suryoday Yojana,' aims to install solar rooftops on one crore houses, contributing to both reducing energy bills for citizens and enhancing India's self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

The move aligns with the broader trend in India's energy sector, as highlighted in a related story. Solar and wind energy are expected to drive a significant portion of India's power generation growth by 2032, according to analysis by the global energy think tank Ember. If India successfully meets its renewable energy targets outlined in the 14th National Electricity Plan (NEP14), solar power's share in the country's power mix is projected to surge from 5 percent to 25 percent between 2022 and 2032. This reflects a shift from coal-driven power generation to greater reliance on solar and wind sources.
