New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to ensure that bureaucrats become tech-savvy. This seems to be the reason that he used the launch of 5G telecom services at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on October 1 as the occasion to acquaint senior officials with 5G services and the accompanying technology, official sources told Bizz Buzz.
The day the Prime Minister launched 5G services at the India Mobile Congress, IMC-2022, the Cabinet Secretary instructed all trainee Assistant Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, Directors, and Joint Secretaries to attend it in the subsequent three days-October 2, 3 and 4.
The visits were being coordinated by the Secretaries of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and the Department of Telecom (DoT). Further, sources said, a report of attendance will be sent to the DoPT and the Cabinet Secretary.
IMC 2022 has exciting demonstrations of domestic tech, from startups as well as Indian majors. Also on display are global technologies, the communiqué to the officials said.
Modi launched the 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) Core, which was indigenously designed and developed by C-DOT. End-to-end 5G call was demonstrated using C-DOT 5G NSA Core installed at BSNL Chandigarh and 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) developed in collaboration with Wisig Networks, VVDN Technologies and Radisys India Pvt Ltd, an official press release said.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Bharti Enterprise Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, and Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla were also present at the 5G launch function.
"New India will not remain a mere consumer of technology, but India will play an active role in the development and implementation of that technology. India will play a big role in designing the future wireless technology, and manufacturing related to it," the Prime Minister said.
He pointed out that India was dependent on other countries for 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. But with 5G, India has created a new history. "With 5G, India is setting a global standard in telecom technology for the first time," he said.
This necessitates officials' acquaintance with technology, sources said.
