Pune, Jan 19: Soon, the nation will have sectors creating sustainable green jobs.

Dr Rajeev Ranjan (IAS) Director, ICRO National Productivity Council also highlighted the development of sustainable green growth and the transition towards a circular economy.

He said this while addressing a ‘Conclave on Sustainability, Productivity and Green Growth’ here on January 18.

He also mentioned that the conclave aims to reach the vision of a $ 5 trillion Indian economy by 2027-2028 through sustainable development. He emphasized on the sustainable development goals and said that by 2070 India aims to reach net zero nation with strategic SDG. Soon the nation will have sectors creating sustainable green jobs.

DY Patil International University, National Productivity Council, Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, NPC- ICRO and IPL jointly conducted the conclave.

The academia and education community has a major role in achieving green growth. Science provides the basis for new and sustainable approaches, solutions, and technologies to meet the challenges of sustainable development.

Prof Prabhat Ranjan, Vice Chancellor, DY Patil International University delivered his keynote address in the seminar. He provided insight into how the university sends interns to the rural field to understand the existing problems in rural India.

The conclave was attended by more than 150 students from various programs and associated faculty members who were positively persuaded to take essential steps toward sustainable development. The event included a thematic presentation by IPL and the National Productivity Council followed by a splendid play by students on sustainability. The conclave was concluded by a Q&A session for students and drawing the findings and key observations of the conclave on ‘Sustainability, Productivity and Green Growth’.

Education, skills development, and tertiary education are important to build foundational knowledge, workforce training, and expand research and innovation in green growth-related fields. In the past decade, academia has promoted education for sustainable development by integrating environmental concerns in curricula. There is also progress in research at university level on environmental sustainability and climate change.

Under this series, NPC organized half-day compact consultative workshop at the university/college/institution campus on the theme ‘Productivity and Green Growth’.

Productivity and Green Growth experts were assigned by NPC to deliver theme talks and interacted with academic professionals, researchers, and students. Such interaction sensitized the academic stakeholders and student community at large about green growth initiatives by the Government of India.

The conclave is important for academic institutions in evolving or strengthening their curricula/educational activities preparing the future professional for contributing to green growth,” NPC said in a statement.
