Nabakalebara, which translates to "new body" in literary terms, is a significant festival associated with Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu. Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu is a unique deity on Earth, as He undergoes periodic changes in His physical form. This concept of Nabakalebara is rooted in the philosophy of rebirth, emphasizing the mortality of the body and the immortality of the soul, a principle elucidated in the Hindu scripture 'Shreemad Bhagbat Gita.'

The Nabakalebara ceremony is performed when there are two months of Asadha (according to the lunar calendar), and this typically occurs in a cycle of 12 to 19 years. The Government of India is commemorating the Nabakalebara held in 2015 by releasing these coins in its memory.

Puri, renowned as one of the four Dhams of India, is celebrated for its colossal temple dedicated to Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu, often referred to as the Lord of the Universe. It's worth noting that Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu is the only deity on Earth known to undergo periodic transformations of His physical form, a phenomenon known as 'Nabakalebara.'
