GHIAL unveils revamped terminal

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) on Friday announced the opening of the additional East area of the Airport, under its fourth phase of expansion. This additional area, integrated with the existing terminal, is spread across 6.07 lakh sq ft. With this expansion, a total area of 29.50 lakh sq ft is now operationalised.
The passenger terminal before expansion was spread across 23.42 lakh sq ft. The expanded Hyderabad International Airport is equipped with 24 remote bus domestic departure gates and arrival facilities, 12 passenger boarding aero bridges, contact stands, a domestic-to-domestic transfer area, three ATRS machines, one screening machine and 12 departure gates.
GHIAL in a press release said, “India is expected to become the fourth largest global travel spender by 2030 and is anticipated to complete five billion trips annually by the same year. As the number of air travelers continues to rise, there has been a surge in the development of new routes both within India and abroad. To cater to this rising demand in passenger traffic, Hyderabad International Airport has taken up phase-wise expansion to cater well beyond 34 million passengers.”
Throughout the phase-wise expansion, the Hyderabad Airport has unveiled a revamped passenger terminal. The expanded domestic and international pier buildings now have revamped lounges, retail, and F&B outlets as well. Additional infrastructure has also been added to the east and west pier buildings.
In addition to a revamped terminal, the expansion also includes additional 85 aircraft stand, ground service equipment tunnel, four new rapid taxiways, a new parallel taxiway, implementation of technology solutions like Category II Airfield Ground Lighting system with LEDs, Advanced Airfield Lighting Control, and Monitoring System, and Individual Lamp Control and Monitoring Systems.
