Visakhapatnam Under the 'Operation Parivartan,' the Andhra Pradesh Police on Saturday set afire ganja (cannabis) grown illegally in the jungles Eastern Ghats on Saturday.

The value of ganja weighing 200 lakh kg destroyed in the presence of top officials including Director General of Police Gautam Sawang at Koduru village near Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district is estimated at over Rs.200 crore.

In joint operations by the rural and city police and Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), ganja was seized mostly in tribal areas in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari district.

Police say the ganja was grown with the support of Maoists and some local activists and is being transported to distant places to make a fast buck. Sometime ago racket was busted when ganja used to be supplied online to Raipur and other places from Visakhapatnam through a popular e-commerce firm in the guise of some herbs.
