Vijayawada Andhra Pradesh Government signed an agreement with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) at an event of G20 in Goa for implementation of energy efficiency measures in the Jagananna Housing Scheme.

EESL agreed to offer new global technologies to enhance energy efficiency in AP. The State’s housing scheme aims to reduce electricity bills and protect the environment by providing affordable and energy-efficient appliances for the housing scheme named ‘Navaratnalu-Pedal Andariki Illu’ beneficiaries.

Six lakh LED bulbs will illuminate Jagananna Colonies. The formidable project cost is worth Rs 400 crore. AP sends a powerful message to the world about the significance of sustainable practices in building a better tomorrow by introducing energy efficiency in housing, said Special Chief Secretary Ajay Jain after signing the historic agreement.

The collaboration with EESL ensures that the State is determined to lead the way in energy efficiency, remarked EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor. The MoU was signed between AP State Housing Company Limited (APSHCL), EESL, a distinguished joint venture of PSUs under the Union Ministry of Power and AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Limited (APSEEDCO) at the global platform of the G20 Summit held in Goa on Saturday.

The agreement was signed and exchanged in between Ajay Jain and Vishal Kapoor in the presence of Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Ajay Tewari, Additional Secretary, Power, GoI, K Sreekant, Chairman EESL, Abhak Bakre and Milind Deore, Director General and Secretary of BEE.

This MoU envisages creating a sustainable future aiming to make AP a shining example of energy efficiency on a global scale. The purpose of this landmark agreement is to supply six lakh LED bulbs, three lakh LED tube lights and another three lakh BLDC ceiling fans in the first phase to the beneficiaries of the Jagananna Colonies.

According to A Chandrasekhar Reddy, the senior advisor of EESL for government affairs and BD Southern Region, the energy efficiency housing project will bring about revolutionary change in the housing sector reducing 26 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Efficiency fans to each family at cost effective prices for those beneficiaries who voluntarily procure these appliances will lead to an estimated saving of 734 units of energy per house per annum. Overall, it is projected that using energy-efficient appliances in the 15.6 lakh houses under phase-one of the housing scheme could save a substantial 1,145 million units (MU) per annum.
