Visakhapatnam Dr GR Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmic Society president on Sunday observed that glaucoma is an irreversibly blinding disease and it should be diagnosed at a very early stage.
He said glaucoma silently kills peripheral vision even though the patient is not having any symptoms, pain, no water, and no redness.
Dr Reddy made the observation at a one-day conference on “Glaucoma India Education Programme ‘’ being organised by Visakha Ophthalmic Association and Glaucoma Society of India and hosted by Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital, Naidutota here.
Addressing a huge gathering of ophthalmologists, he said that patients with diabetes, high myopia and family history of glaucoma and frequent change of glasses must check up an ophthalmologist for avoidable blindness. Continuous evaluation will help reduce vision loss, he added.
Dr Viswamitra, Superintendent, Government Regional Eye Hospital, Visakhapatnam, called upon the participants to gain knowledge from the conference.
