New Delhi: On the day 1 of unlock in the National Capital, residents thronged the streets and bars to let off the steam. BizzBuzz spoke with the local residents on the latest unlocking phase in the capital amid ongoing immunization drive.
77-year-old Kiranjit Kaur, a resident of Tagore Garden, ventured out in the market after being confined within the house for over eight months due to pandemic scare. Her family's first order of business is to taste sense of normalcy.
"I, thankfully, did not lose any family members to Covid, but I know many of my neighbors who did. The psychological implication of being confined to home is something which impacted me and my young grandchildren quite severely," Ms Kaur said.
Destinations such as Subash Nagar, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, Saket and RK Puram saw heavy rush throughout the day as people stepped out to enjoy spirits of ongoing festivities. Youngsters at Subash Nagar stepped out to enjoy the night life, while ignoring safety protocols to follow.
With immunization drive taking place at private and government hospitals and schools, Delhi government is considering reopening of schools. For three consecutive days, Delhi government reported that no Covid death has occurred in the capital. Though the experts have warned of a possible third wave, Delhities told BizzBuzz that surge of another deadly wave might just be a threat perception.
