The brewery will utilise advanced technology, including a high-gravity brewing system and automated brewhouse, for efficiency and precise temperature control. An Innovation, Research, and Development Hub will further solidify the brewery's position as a leader in modern, green beer production in India
Cheers Group, the globally acclaimed maker of Kadamba Single Malt whisky, has announced plans to establish Goa’s first purpose-built carbon-neutral brewery at Verna Industrial Estate, near Dabolim International Airport. The facility will produce mild lagers and strong beers, including leading international labels.
Once fully operational, the brewery is expected to be one of the most advanced in India, supporting the growth of Cheers Group’s beer portfolio and contributing to the local economy. The company sees greenfield projects as the only viable option, given that Goa has only one commercial brewery—United Breweries—which meets just half of the State’s beer demand.
A significant investment has been earmarked for renewable energy, particularly a high-capacity solar power plant. This initiative aligns with Cheers Group’s commitment to sustainable production while mitigating risks from potential power shortages.
"The demand for beer in India is booming, fuelled by rising incomes and a liberalizing market. Several international beer majors are already in India, with more looking to enter," said Ashwin Balivada, CEO of Cheers Group. The company, valued at Rs 750 crore, has won over 200 national and international awards. Balivada emphasised the importance of quality in beer production. "Good beer comes from high-quality raw materials and well-optimised processes. Our brewery will use world-class ingredients—malt, hops, yeast, sugar syrup, and specially treated water that meets international standards."
The facility will feature cutting-edge technology, including a high-gravity brewing system that reduces tank requirements while increasing output, leading to significant cost efficiencies. "An automated brewhouse will ensure precise temperature control for different beer profiles," said Dr Mohan Krishna Balivada, founder of Cheers Group and the world’s first doctorate in alco-bev marketing.
The project will also include an Innovation, Research, and Development Hub to enhance efficiency, maintain global quality standards, and establish the new brewery as a flagship in India’s modern, smart, and green beer production landscape.
